Join my Thesis Film for my Master's Program

Hey hey! My name is Jennifer Marie and I am a non-traditional filmmaking student. I am obtaining my Master's degree right now and I am currently seeking people to join the contribution for my thesis film project entitled, Kool-Aid Stand. I am shooting the first week of September 2023.

Check out the story below. Maybe you can relate to being bullied or not having a lot of money when you were a kid. This is the story of Maurice "Reese" Jackson written and directed by me, Jennifer Marie!

9-year old, latchkey kid, Maurice “Reese” Jackson who’s living in the projects of Watts, CA heads home after school and being chased by the notorious, local bully, Tyson, to play his video game then finds the electricity cut off. Reese’s hard-working, single mother, Raelaunda, tells him the lights will be on in a couple of days and to stay home until she gets off.

To help his mommy out, Reese decides to make a Kool-aid stand, right in the middle of his Watts neighborhood to earn the money and get the electricity back on.

After a bumpy start, Reese has a breakthrough, but Tyson threatens his success. Reese will have a final opportunity to end the bullying he faces day-to-day with his arch nemesis, Tyson and learns that victory is sweet and he should never back down again.

The challenges Reese faces while working towards his financial goal makes him grow up faster than he expects. Once the day comes to an end, Reese’s mommy is blown away by the money he raised and more than the money, the son she raised.
