Our Kids in Kenya

Donation protected

*UPDATE FROM APRIL 2018*

Much love to all who wished me a happy birthday yesterday. It was bittersweet as I enjoyed spending time with my mom and sister, but also wish I could have been with the kids. Even though I am no longer in Kenya, the hustle continues. I will be funding the daycare from over here with the help of Pastor Jane’s daughter, Rose (@nambuva). I have hired her as the manager of the daycare and she will be in charge of all while I am gone. My goal is to pay for rent for both the classroom and office, food, water, electricity, and the salaries for the teacher, cook/cleaner, and manager. That way, all of the money made from the daycare is going directly into our account for the children. Our goal/mission is to raise enough money to purchase land. If we can purchase land, then we can build a permanent home for these children and eliminate having to deal with rent and landlords. I am also going to pay for a helper to be at the children’s home who can watch over the children and make sure they are doing their homework, keeping clean, etc. All of these expenses will cost approximately $800-900/month and I will be paying on my own. I am praying to get the word out there with hope that a few people would be willing to contribute something small each month. $5 would help to pay for breakfast for all the children for one morning. Many people wish to help, but never know where their money is going. The money I fundraise goes directly from my gofundme to these children and I trust each person who I have handling the funds in Kenya. All I’m asking is that you please share my post. Tell your coworkers, members of your church, friends, family, etc. If I can get 20 people to commit to $20/month then I’m already halfway covered. I know firsthand how hard it is to ask for money, but I will be forever grateful for any help and I know these children will even more. I am an open book, so please ask me any questions or concerns you may have. Help ya girl out! I know life is hard and many of us struggle with money on a daily basis, so please know I understand if you can’t. I’m attached for life to these children, so don’t knock the hustle. Asante sana

*UPDATE FROM FEB 2018*

One week down in Kenya and it’s like I never left. This past year has been very rough for Pastor Jane and the children. Unfortunately, Pastor Jane was behind on the rent for the children’s home and also the school, so they were chased away. The children are now living in a small extension off of her house and space is limited. The school was a source of income for Pastor Jane and she now has lost that as well. Despite all of their hardships, their smiles remain.

I have much work to do during my remaining 7 weeks and none of it would be possible without the donations I have received. I can’t thank you all enough for your continued support. My hope is that I can raise another $3,000 to fund my plans for the children. I would like to help Pastor Jane in opening a daycare with hopes to transition into a Preschool and Kindergarten. Opening a daycare/school would provide income and also allow the small children at the home to attend school for free. I would like to pay for the following: rent for a year for the daycare, one teacher for a year, and an assistant to cook and clean at the school. In addition to that, I would like to pay rent at the children’s home for a year and for a helper to watch over the children 24/7. There are also things around the home that need to be fixed up as well. I realize this is a lot to ask, but please share my post and maybe someone will feel inspired to be a part of my journey.

The prices for all of the above are as follows:

Daycare/school
$90/month for rent
$100/month for teacher
$60/month for assistant (clean/cool)
Total = $240/month

Home
$150/month for rent
$80/month for helper at home
Total = $230/month

$420 for repairs around the home

Many of the children’s school fees and daily food have been provided through all of your donations so far. The children were taken to the barber and always have a snack/sweet nowadays. The clothes that were donated have been given to the children who put them on immediately. They are so happy.

Asante sana! Much love everyone❤️

I kindly ask that you please share this site and help ME to help THEM. Xoxo, Lizz.

See below to read about my last experience in Kenya.

My name is Lizz. I recently returned home to the USA after spending 4 weeks in Kenya, Africa where I volunteered at an orphanage. The orphanage is called Priscilla and Anjelica Chalk Foundation and there are currently 32 children living there. Before coming to Kenya I had no idea what to expect, but came with an open heart and open mind. What I have seen is absolutely horrific. The poverty is mind blowing and I could not believe my eyes. The children also receive an education at the orphanage, but the schooling is minimal and they do not have proper supplies or textbooks to learn what is required. The children have been abandoned on the street, beaten and abused, starving, and so much more. It is heartbreaking to see. The children have to take cold water showers from a bucket and their "bathroom" is a hole in the ground. The living conditions here are far worse than I could have ever imagined. They have to fend for themselves and all labor is done by the children. They cook whatever they can find, wash their ripped clothes by hands, have shoes without laces and with holes in them, and have to carry any water they find. The youngest child is 3 and the oldest is 16. Despite all of their hardships, they are the HAPPIEST human beings I have ever met. They laugh all the time, help eachother, dance, sing, and work together as a team simply to SURVIVE. Thanks to family, friends, friends of friends, and complete strangers, myself and another volunteer, Yasmeen, were able to make some significant changes during our short visit. We were able to build them a dining hall with brand new benches and tables, a kitchen, install electricity in their bathrooms, purchase a new pair of shoes for each child, school supplies, basic essentials they desperately needed, and GOOD FOOD. We also had parties which consisted of snacks, candy, juice, and MUSIC, which was my personal favorite part. These are thankful for anything and I would LOVE to do more for them. Saying goodbye to them was honestly one of the hardest moments of my life and I am already planning my return.

Now that I have personally seen how these children live, my goal is to go back and make some serious changes. My hope is that by sharing this video, I can create awareness and inspire people to help ME to help THEM. Let's show these children that people really CARE. It might sound crazy, but I am hoping and praying that this video will go viral and ELLEN DEGENERES will holler @ me! All I ask is that if you took the time to watch this video and you feel like you can make a difference, SHARE THE VIDEO!!!!!!

I can't thank you enough and I KNOW the children thank you. Thank you all very much. God bless and much love xoxo, Lizz

P.S. To ALL who donated during my trip, THANK YOU! We could not have accomplished all that we did without YOUR HELP. Please watch from 27:30-37:30 for a special surprise from the children. :)
