Out of Country Critical Illness

Donation protected
This account has been created for my sister, Khaleda Akter (former student of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Session 1989-90, and an ex-employee of BARI), who lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada as a permanent resident. She was travelling in China when she suddenly became drastically ill. On June 20th, she was hospitalized because of food poisoning and high fever. Immediately after being admitted, she went through an intensive abdominal surgery. Since then, her health has been deteriorating to respiratory failure and septic shock. Over time the septic shock lead to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and severe lung infection. She is an ICU patient and has been under ventilation support this entire time. We initially wanted to take her back to Canada, but the air ambulance costs are over our limit at 200 thousand Canadian dollars (CAD).

As of today (July 20/2018), the total amount of bills exceeds 75 thousand CAD. We’ve managed to pay a third of the bill so far. Hospital authority has limited her treatment and haven’t been giving her all necessary medications because of the pending bills. We are all emotionally and financially unstable over this tragic situation and are scared to lose Khaleda. We would deeply appreciate your support during these desperate times.
