Support Outdoor Education at Beechen Cliff School

Beechen Cliff School, a state school in Bath, offers pupils from all backgrounds the opportunity to participate in multiple outdoor activities and challenges. George is raising money to help ensure everyone at Beechen continues to get this opportunity.

A message from our son, George: "Over seven years, in addition to my normal classes, I have successfully completed bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh awards, the 35, 45 and 55 mile Ten Tors challenges on Dartmoor, mountaineering trips to the Lake District and Snowdonia, two 100 mile Centurion challenge walks between Bath and Hungerford and back (plus 50 miles on my first attempt), the Three Peaks Challenge ascending Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon during one weekend, as well as multiple short stays at the school house called Tir-y-Cwm in the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog). Now I am in year 13, and my last challenge is the coast to coast cycle ride between Ilfracombe and Plymouth on 28th September 2024 (100 miles in a day from north to south Devon). None of these challenges would have been possible without the tireless work and enthusiasm of the fabulous staff at Beechen, and the availability of the school house in Wales which helps keep many of the costs to a minimum, allowing everyone from their year 7 residential all the way into sixth form to enjoy making friends and learning outdoors."

Outdoor education for young people today couldn't be more important: as parents we have watched pupils from Beechen Cliff School, and the many other schools involved along the way, feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment whilst developing resilience, stamina, teamwork, empathy, respect and aspiration. To help ensure that these phenomenal opportunities continue to exist for all Beechen Cliff pupils into the future George is completing his final coast to coast challenge to raise money for the Tir-y-Cwm Trust, the school charity. In particular to upgrade and improve the external bunkhouse.
