Love Grows Here: A Gift for Mallory & Dom

Our dear friends, Mallory and Dominic, recently celebrated their wedding—a beautiful moment of sweetness and joy in the midst of an incredibly difficult time. Mallory has recently been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

Needless to say, this news has been both shocking and devastating. In the face of this overwhelming uncertainty, they decided to bump up their wedding and celebrate their love with an intimate group of friends in advance of the start of Mallory's treatment, which began last week.

As you may know, Mallory recently completed a certificate in horticulture. At first, I found this development a bit unexpected—the notoriously tough city girl, toiling away with her hands in the dirt. But as I saw her start to recognize and call by name all the odd bits of flora springing up from the sidewalk cracks, I began to see them as kindred spirits: stubborn, beautiful, a little bit wild, but growing despite all odds.

In this season of her life, Mallory has become a cultivator of many things—community, creativity, and green beans—but above all, love. Now it is time for her to turn that same patience, tenderness, and care inward. And like a well-tended garden, love needs only simple things to grow: sunlight, water, space, and time. Since Mallory and Dom won’t have the capacity to plan a honeymoon, we want to give them a chance to step away for a few days somewhere outside the city, where they breathe in nature, turn off their phones, and simply be together—free from the exhausting cycle of appointments, check-ins, and all the other noise that now fills each day to the brim.
