Overture (n): an introduction to something more substantial
For a long time, YWAM Queenstown has had a dream to open a café in support of our vision to disciple young people, engage with and serve the local community, know God, and make Him known. We are passionate about hospitality, creating spaces and environments that encourage growth and relationship, and evangelism. We believe this café is a great way to fulfill this part of God’s call on us as a ministry.
When we purchased a new property for the base back in September, the dream for this café began to solidify with the acquisition of more space and resources. Over the last few months, we have been converting the previous tenants’ spa room into a perfect little coffee shop! The space has evolved slowly but surely: we’ve toyed with a few different names, layouts, and logos; created a business plan; built countertops and tables and menus; and assembled a team of volunteer baristas. We are ready to hopefully open in the next few weeks!
Through prayer, we have landed on a name: “Overture,” meaning “an introduction to something more substantial.” We hope this space serves as just that—an introduction to Jesus.
Our first stage of opening will be to our volunteers, students, and speakers with what we have; eventually we hope to secure a license to open to the public, but we have a few steps to complete first:
- Finish remodeling the café itself
- Upgrade our espresso machine to a commercial grade model
- Purchase a commercial coffee grinder
- Purchase a dishwasher and sink and new fridge.
I would like to invite you to support the public opening of Overture! Our goal is $6,500 USD. By September 1st, we hope to be able to purchase a new espresso machine, finish our remodels currently in progress and hopefully open to the public.
We believe the decision to be a financial supporter is the beginning of a partnership in the calling and vision the Lord placed on YWAM Queenstown to see this café come to life. Would you take a moment to pray and ask God if this is something He’d like you to invest in?
