Overwhelming Assisted Living Expenses
Donation protected
I am asking for donations to help continue my mother Marie Giamarese’s current level of care which exceeds $15k per month.
For almost a decade, my mother has been in and out of physical rehabilitation, assisted living, and memory care facilities. Now at nearly 95 years of age, and 7 years of continuous decline, the constant need for care has taken its toll on her finances and we’re at the end of our rope. After a lifetime of squirreling away money on a modest income and living below her means, the small fortune she was able to amass has been decimated by the elder care machine. Collectively, the facilities have cost nearly one million dollars out-of-pocket over the years. And now, at a cost of over $15,000 a month (no, that’s not a typo), she faces expulsion from her facility unless we can come up with an alternate funding solution while Medicaid deliberates and quibbles over what’s an allowable expense.
Mom is a mere shell of what she was, unaware of what is happening regarding her medical bills. Her dementia renders her completely unable to care for herself. Her facility cares for her well, but moving her to a state-run facility would surely cause her great distress. If you’ve ever seen the inside of one of those, you’d know what I mean by that.
So, with a heavy heart, I am asking for some help. Please donate if in any way my family has shown you kindness over the years, if Marie has been a source of joy in your life, or if you understand this fight and just want to make a donation to a good cause.
