Owen Marshall's Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Back in June, Owen cut himself in the kitchen,  cutting the two flexor tendons in his left pinky finger. He went in for his first surgery to repair them and for two months, he made great progress with physical therapy. The doctors gave him the go-ahead to try playing and even start gigging by end of September. Then in late August, both of his tendons ruptured again and he had to go in for a second surgery on September 5.

All told, this means that he’ll be unable to use his left hand for at least six months.  As an independent musician, this has had a double impact; not only has Owen not been able to do what he loves and play music, but he’s had no income for regular expenses or to offset the unexpected hospital bills.

While recovering from his first surgery, and after reaching his health insurance deductible, Owen lost his health insurance subsidies from the Affordable Care Act because of a change in Liana’s employment. Days before his second surgery, Owen’s insurance was reset with a full-price premium and a new deductible that is nine times higher than the previous one. To try to wrap your head around this unfortunate situation, learn more about the “Family Glitch” in the ACA here , and then call your members of Congress about it!

Here’s where we, his friends, family, and the greater trad music community, can step up to the plate. We aim to raise $6000 to cover the insurance deductible that he’s already paid out of pocket, an estimated $3000 that will still need to be covered because of the "Family Glitch", and then at least an additional $8000 to recoup some of the work he’s had to give up from June 2019 to January 2020 for a total of $17,000.

Even if you are unable to donate, please considering helping by sharing the link or dropping Owen and Liana a note to let them know that you're thinking of them. Thank you so, so much for your support.
