Owen's Medical Fund
Donation protected
Our son Owen is 4 years old and was adopted from China in October 2016. His medical needs were complex (complex heart defect along with bilateral cleft lip and palate) but we knew that he would not survive if he remained in China so we stepped out in faith to bring him home and we are so glad we did!!
We arrived in the US with him on October 27th at 8:30 am and had him at Boston Children's Hospital by 10:15am that same morning. He was admitted for a sedated MRI and Cath on Nov 2nd and spent three days in the hospital.
On Dec 6th 2016 Owen was admitted and had open heart surgery to repair a very complex heart defect. There was some complications so his chest was reopened right there in his CICU room on Dec 7th. Later that day he had to go back into the operating room to repair a blockage in the area where they patched his large VSD. His chest will most likely remain open until Saturday. He will remain on the ventilator at least until that time. He is currently on a pace maker but we are hoping he will not need it longterm.
We are already receiving large medical bills from his inital hospital stay from November. He is covered by insurance but insurance doesn't pay 100% of his care, nor does it cover travel expenses, food, and other necessities while we are here in Boston. We will most likely be here through Christmas and we have 3 other children ages 9, 4, (adopted June 2015) & 2 (adopted same time as Owen) that were also adopted from China. Our three other children have Down syndrome and their care requires lots of therpy and medical appointments also. Addison (my husband and Owen's daddy) is unable to work during this time as we are both with him while he's in the cardiac intensive care unit. When he is moved to the floor, one of us will stay here with him while the other will be home with the other children. Although Addison will still get paid his regular pay, he will not be able to work his typical call time as a paramedic so he will not be earning any of the overtime we are use to which significanly reduces his monthly income.
Owen will need further surgeries in the future for his heart and his cleft lip and palate. We will feel so blessed by any and all donations that come in to help us with these medical expenses. God Bless!
