Owl Sanctuary Festival Park Ebbw Vale
It was set up by Malcolm Jones, who has over 40 years experience and has dedicated his life to rescuing and rehabilitating birds of prey. He started with just a handful of birds but it is now home to over 60 different types of birds of prey, including hawks, falcons and many types of owls.
The Sanctuary is also home to a few rescued domestic animals such as a red footed tortoise, guinea pigs, rabbit and bearded dragons, who reside in the Small Animal Section.
The Sanctuary is purely run by volunteers, including Malcolm himself; and is self funded by providing an educational service to schools and fetes. Which this year due to Covid19 has stopped.
Entry to the Sanctuary is free, but any donations made on visits are kindly appreciated, but unfortunately again due to the current circumstances, visiting has been reduced due to the closure of virtually all of the shops at the site.
The parks infrastructure in some places is hanging on by a thread from weather damage and deterioration over the years. Most of the funds left or occasional donations are spent on the birds, making sure they are fed and their well being is kept at a high standard.
It would be a huge help if the park can get a fresh new look restoring it to its former glory, up keeping the general landscape and appearance of the sanctuary, with new/adapted aviaries, sheds, outhouses and educational lodge. It would not only be a massive help to the birds safety and to entice visitors back to a more visually pleasing sanctuary.
This sanctuary is a massive part of the local community, nestling in the south east valley of Wales, it would be a huge loss if anything was to happen to the sanctuary. The park acts as a safe haven to many people within the area, families, children, vulnerable adults and people with disabilities. Any help that could be given to preserve this sanctuary would be gratefully received.
