On the morning of Saturday 15th of April, violent and soon rapidly escalating armed conflict erupted in Khartoum and many other cities across Sudan. The parties in question, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and a paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in their desire to seize power, have dragged the country into a war unprecedented in scale and range.
By the 22nd of April, this conflict had claimed over 400 lives, with over 4,000 people reporting serious injuries over the span of five days. Hospitals were erratically targeted across the tri-state capital, forcing over 60% of all health centres to shut down (16 of which were irreparably damaged), and those that have remained open are running critically low on basic supplies such as oxygen and water.
Hundreds of thousands of families have been forcefully displaced and are now in dire need of shelter, while those still locked down in armed hotspots are running dangerously low on food, water, and medical provisions. The collapse of the health system and the dearth of basic supplies are creating an ever-increasingly dangerous situation for civilians across the country. This is causing significant a humanitarian threat on top of the conflict itself.
This is in collaboration with the Hadhreen organisation (https://hadhreen.org/english/) Hadhreen holds the responsibility of allocating the funds, with a main focus on the following:
1. Supporting orphanages, elderly care homes, and homeless girls’ shelters.
2. Providing food supplies for hospitals in Khartoum, Wad Madani, and wherever there is a need.
3. Additional funds may be allocated to support any emergent situation based on Hadhreen’s need assessment on the ground.
Let us stand together in solidarity with the people of Sudan during these difficult times and provide them with the support they deserve.
