Oxygen Concentrators for Mongolia
Hello, my name is Khulan Bayarsaikhan and I am currently a rising senior in high school living in Irvine, California.
While the Covid-19 virus has affected our lives significantly worldwide, patients in Mongolia struggle to breath and survive as they fight the deadly virus.
Mongolia (with a population of 3.225 million) has reported over 153,000 infections and 755 deaths from Covid-19 as of most recently. Last month, the country went through its most severe wave and experienced the highest rates of infections and deaths per capita in the world.
Although cases have been falling since early July, Mongolia still remains as one of the many countries that are currently experiencing a shortage of oxygen.
The following link is a video showing a patient on the verge of death as medics perform a CPR to desperately try to save his life. The caption on the video says, "About 10 people everyday are losing their lives due to a shortage of any kind of oxygen delivery devices".
The goal is to send at least 4 oxygen concentrators that cost about $500 each to the hospitals of heavily impacted areas such as Bayanzurkh District, Khan-Uul District, and Sukhbaatar District in the capital city Ulaanbaatar. I will be in charge of purchasing the concentrators and shipping them.
It gives me immense pain to see my people losing their lives and suffering the deaths of their loved ones. It would be a huge privilege for me to give back to my country even if it's small.
