OxygenAid for Bangalore
With the second wave of this unprecedented pandemic smashing through India, BANGALORE has the HIGHEST number of ACTIVE Covid-19 infections of ANY city in India. In fact, 600,000 in Karnataka state (where Bangalore is the state capital) have Covid-19 that's 1 in 25 that are infected.*
Hospital beds are near impossible to find, search parties and waiting lists overwhelmed. People are dying at home and outside hospitals without any medical resources to give them a fair chance at survival.
OxygenAid gets life-saving oxygen to Bangalore and surrounding areas by delivering oxygen concentrators straight into people's homes or placing them in front of hospitals where people suffering from Covid-19 are waiting outside for much needed for medical attention. Oxygen concentrators are invaluable to the fight against Covid19 as they provide a CONTINUOUS supply of TANKLESS oxygen using ambient air.
Partnering with a doctor-led organization, Aarogya Seva, OxygenAid is giving people a chance to BREATHE by offering them:
ACCESS to oxygen
DIRECT to the patient
IMMEDIATE action
HOW WE DO IT
Understanding that every breath matters, a core team at OxygenAid worked quickly and sleeplessly to source concentrators and set up a fundraising campaign. Through the support of generous donors, and in less than a week since the inception of OxygenAid, we received our first shipment concentrators and oximeters.
We are a lending library of 10L oxygen concentrators that:
1. Deliver DIRECTLY to the homes of individuals suffering from Covid-19 and cannot find a hospital bed. Once the resources are no longer needed by the patient, they are instantly sanitised and readied for the next individual.
2. Strategically place oxygen concentrators outside hospitals to support those in dire need and waiting for hospital beds and at after-care centers. Concentrators can help to maintain a person while they wait for a hospital bed and once they are discharged to prevent relapse.
GOAL
The demand for resources is growing exponentially everyday and the OxygenAid team is responding on the ground to the immediate needs of people fighting Covid-19 right NOW. Through their collaboration with Aarogya Seva, an NGO powered by doctors, we are ensuring that every rupee or dollar donated goes straight into life-saving medical equipment.
The short term goal is to fund 200 concentrators and 1,000 oximeters. However, with the high level of Covid Cases, OxygenAid is planning to fund strategies that are more sustainable to take the load off of our taxed infrastructure such as investing in oxygen generating plants.
*20 purchased out of goal of 250 concentrators (1 concentrator = $1,000 / Rs 75,000)
*200 purchased out of goal of 1,000 oximeter (1 oximeter = $10 / Rs 500)
*1 purchased out of goal of 6 oxygen generator plant ($165,000 / Rs 1.2 Crores)
WHO WE ARE
We are a team of Bangaloreans across the world who have come together to solve a problem that we find unacceptable and disheartening. We have woken up to messages and calls every night asking about oxygen concentrators or access to hospital beds because someone's mother/ father/ brother/ sister/ grandparent has dangerously low oxygen saturation. Please support our effort — together we can stop this senseless loss and save lives. The need is urgent.
