Ozzi starts a new life!

This week we were visiting the beautiful island of Moorea in the French Polynesian islands and met the sweetest pup at our hotel, Hilton Moorea. Throughout the week, we became quick friends and would spend any time we were at the hotel together. He’d sleep under our beach chair, wait patiently for a piece of bacon after breakfast, greet us with a tail wag every sunrise and walk us home every night after dinner. When he wasn’t with us, he was socializing with anyone and everyone that would give him a pet (or some food ). This pup was clearly a lover. Obviously, We broke the cardinal rule of a canine island romance. We got too attached and gave him a name: Ozzi.
Flash to the end of the week getting ready for a bittersweet goodbye when one of the amazing employees found us and told us the upsetting news. Someone had written a review complaining about the sweetest pup and because of this, they would have to call and get him put down. We knew we could not see this pups life end due to one grouchy, bad review so we decided we needed to get him out of there. After many conversations with the hotel staff, the property next door where he stayed, and a bunch of concerned fellow hotel patrons, we got Ozzi to the vet, got in contact with the local Pet Association, Eimeo Animara, french Polynesia. The amazing volunteers were able to share next steps on what Ozzi needed in order to leave and now they are helping take care of him for his 3 week quarantine before he heads to the US.
The next 3 weeks we will be looking into all options for where Ozzi will find his forever home. We will either keep him in San Francisco with me or find him someplace even better where he has space to run and play. All of this will depend on what is best for him!
in the meantime, so many of the wonderful guests wanted to follow along and also help contribute to his medical bills (vaccinations, microchip, fixing) and transportation across the pacific so we thought this was the best way to do that. I will share updates on the process along the way!
we are beyond grateful that we found this sweet boy and cannot wait to find him a place he can live safely and happily. Now let’s get this boy to the states!
any additional funds raised beyond what is needed will be donated to the Eimeo Animara, french Polynesia to help their efforts improving the lives of domestic animals on the island. We are beyond grateful for their help.
finally if you would like to follow along more closely, we started an Instagram for him that will hopefully be just focused on him (rather than everyone needing to see the inner workings of my daily life ) feel free to follow along: @thepupfrommoore
