Emma's fundraiser

Emma Gail Menard is Fairfield, Vermont native who recently completed her first year of college at Cornell University. She is a vibrant, smart, creative 19 year old girl who runs, bikes, immerses herself in her studies, and loves her dog and her family.

Emma recently received the devastating diagnosis that she has a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma. Emma and her family have been completely stunned and saddened by this diagnosis. One minute Emma was packing up to return to her friends and studies at Cornell. The next minute, she and her family are suddenly grappling with a diagnosis of cancer, deciding how and who will be the best to treat her cancer, and coming to terms with Emma’s new reality.

Emma’s tumor is located on her sacrum (a bone in the lower portion of her spine) and will require surgery to remove. Emma and her family are looking into all treatment options for her, as conventional approaches to this surgery would cut through nerves that innervate organs in her lower abdomen and could leave her with lifelong medical issues.

As friends of Emma’s parents, we are starting this Go Fund Me page as a way to support Emma and her family (mom Sarah, dad Norman, and sister Elizabeth) as they begin to navigate the medical system and pursue treatment for Emma. Funds raised will help with Emma’s out of pocket medical costs (imaging, hospital stays, surgeries, chemotherapy…) and travel expenses from our rural Vermont town to the medical centers where she will be receiving treatment..

Emma is a sweet girl with a lifetime of adventures still ahead of her. Please help us make sure she can make the most of all those adventures and all that life has in store for her. Thank you.
