Keswick Rugby Club - The Big Build!
KRUFC are trying to raise £500,000 to build a new clubhouse!
We’re aware that the subject of a new clubhouse build has been raised many times in the past and it is easy to become apathetic towards the matter as previous plans have stalled, momentum has been lost and we’ve slipped back into the status quo of having a clubhouse that will do.
Now, however, our facility simply won’t do and inactivity and procrastination is no longer an option!
The building of our clubhouse was perhaps the earliest example of ‘The Keswick Way’, being built by club members but, flood resilience aside, it no longer meets our needs and aspirations. Once the preserve of single sex senior teams, our club now has thriving Junior and Women’s teams and we need
to create a building that works for all of our members, right now and for future generations.
Two years ago we embarked on the project with a steering group appointed by the general committee whose initial scope was to identify what was needed from a new facility. This was summarised with a 5 point plan or set of ideals that any new design should address.
They included:
1. The clubhouse should, first and foremost, feel like a members’ club and not a ‘venue’ where commercial aspirations overtake the needs of our rugby community.
2. The clubhouse design should include 6 changing rooms, each self contained so that boys', girls', men’s and women’s fixtures can take part at the same time without creating safeguarding
concerns.
3. The clubhouse should have the bar downstairs leading onto the pitch side patio so that rugby supporters don’t have to go upstairs to access the hospitality areas.
4. The new design should see the facility raised above the risk of flooding.
5. A function space that comfortably holds everyone on a double header match day.
