OAKC Together We Tee is a Manchester Country Club initiative in partnership with the Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation. The OAKC (Opportunity and Access for Kids of Color) Initiative aims to diversify the club in the Manchester Community and establish a place that is more welcoming and inclusive to all groups by creating opportunities for relationship building between the parent/child and establishing a life-long activity they can grow together.
The program for 2022 starts on July 6th.
The purpose of the program is to accomplish the following:
· Enroll up to 10 black/brown youth and their parent/guardian
· Match each parent/child with a Manchester Country Club volunteer to act as an instructor and mentor
· Provide group instruction for parent/child by local golf pro along with technical support from member mentor once per week for 6 weeks
· Provide both parent and child dinner prior to or after each of the instruction sessions, sponsored by the club restaurant
· Provide each child with their own set of golf clubs, balls, tee, shirts, hats, shoes to use for the duration of the instructional program. Sets will be stored at the club. Students who complete all six weeks of instruction will be awarded their clubs and equipment at no cost.
· Parents will be provided with a set of clubs for all instructions and uses associated with the program. Sets will be stored at the club.
· Following the 6-week league, all participants will play in an end-of-league tournament followed by a small banquet. At this banquet, parent and youth players will be provided with a final meal together, listen to and give testimonials on their experiences, and receive awards if they did not miss a class/league play etc.
· All youth that participated throughout the 6-week program will also be given a complimentary Jr. membership for the remainder of the season.
