Please Help My Mom

Hi, my name is Dana and I’m fundraising to help my mom, Diana. For those of you who don’t know us personally, in the photo my mom is the person on the right and I’m on the left with my daughter, which was taken last Christmas.

My mom had some pretty severe medical issues develop in the last few months and had to go to the hospital. She had a lot of things going on at once and because of all the combined issues, she became too weak to walk. Once they got her stabilized at the hospital, she was sent to a physical therapy rehabilitation center to gain her strength and mobility back. Her insurance only covered 20 days at the facility with physical therapy happening 5 days a week for 1 hour a day. The rest of the time she was left to lie in bed or sit in a wheelchair. We all know 1 hour a day 5 days a week is not enough to rehabilitate someone but that’s all her insurance would cover. Once physical therapy started we could tell something deeper was going on with her hands and strength. Before going to the hospital and getting sick, my mom was able to walk, do everything for herself, drive, etc. Now she is having major issues gripping, hands shaking, and numbness and tingling in her extremities. She can’t walk or support herself currently. Although we fought for the doctor and the rehab center to quickly explore her medical issues, the 20 days allowed by her insurance ran out in no time at all. The physical therapists decided she was not making enough progress so they did not recommend her for more physical therapy treatment which cut off any contribution from her insurance. We are still working with her doctor to get her in to see specialists but it’s going to take some time. The medical facility she is at costs just under $12,000 per month. We are trying to get her more insurance but as of now we are on the hook for the month of December. I’m asking for help so that my mom can stay in the facility while she goes to specialists and gets tests to determine what’s wrong. It’s better for her to be there since they have the equipment and staff to easily help move her around and transport her to appointments.

Anything you can find in your heart to contribute to help my mom stay at the nursing center would be a blessing for us. My mom and her husband are on a fixed income and I got laid off in September so I’m an unemployed single mom with a 2 year old daughter. I live over a hour away so it’s difficult for me to get out there since I’m unemployed and gas prices are so high. I feel pretty helpless not being able to contribute financially to this. My mom is only 61 so she has a lot of life left in her. She has never had issues walking or getting around so I’m confident with the proper diagnosis and treatment that she could restore some of her mobility. We just need the time to let the doctors and specialists run their tests and examine all the issues she is having so we can get her up and moving on her own again. Please help if you can. My mom, her husband, and I would be truly grateful.
