Face Masks for Our Students

Want to join me in making a difference? The Union City PBA Local 8 Civic Association has joined forces with UnionCityNJLiving in efforts to provide our students with face masks. Any donation will help make an impact.

As you know people of all ages are being affected by Covid-19. I currently manage UnionCity.NJ_Living and as I walked our streets one thing I noticed was our teenagers hanging out in groups and Who can blame them? We were all teens once. We can remember just wanting to do whatever we wanted, we all couldn't stand just being home all day, we used to take a lot of risks and try different things, we almost felt invincible. Much hasn't change with this age group and thats okay. I also know that these kids are making their way to school every Tuesday to grab lunch and not all will have a good mask or parents can't afford to get them a descent mask and with summer around the corner it may be difficult to keep them indoors.  I asked myself what can I do to help?

I came up with the initiative to raise funds to provide our teens with masks. I would like to go beyond just helping the students, but helping their siblings and parents if I could too. Just thinking about the amount of high school students intimidated me. After connecting with a UCHS Social Worker I found out that there is an estimate of 3000 students which is why my goal is this high on the minimum side of the scale. I thought about this number and I quickly became discouraged, but then I thought to myself, "This is huge for me, but this is just not me, I am part of a big, close knit community and with you and my Union City family this goal is definitely attainable."

Our teens will always be free spirited. And as much as we would like to hold some of them down for their own good, we never will. But we can help. By providing these masks we can make sure they are protected when going outside and coming back home to contact their parents and grandparents who are most vulnerable. They have already learned other ways to keep themselves protected from all their amazing teachers across the Union City Board of Education. Donating these masks to them will be added protection.

I have partnered up with The Union City PBA Local 8  Civic Association in efforts to raise the needed funds. So please help with a donation of any kind you can. We will be working with many businesses in the area to help match our donations to meet our number as quickly as possible.
