All it takes is one second, one solitary and blinding moment, to change lives forever.

By all accounts, it was just a normal day. A day like any other until the Deputy Sherriff knocked on our door and uttered those fateful words: “Our loved ones were dead.”

On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at approximately 11:00 am, my eldest sister (Pa Pamella Phang) and her husband (Chu Vincent Vang) met their tragic end in a violent car collision while traveling west on HWY 140, from Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Having only recently relocated from Sacramento, California to Klamath, Oregon just the week before, this was supposed to be an exciting time in both their lives – a fresh start filled with hope in anticipation for the many possibilities ahead.

Together, my sister and brother-in-law leave behind nine grieving children – her 4 and his 5.

Making matters worse, this is the second time my niece and nephews are forced to undergo the loss of a parent, having lost their father (Pa’s first husband) to cancer 12 years ago.  As deep as my pain may be, I do not pretend to know what it feels like to lose both parents so young.

Before marrying Chu Vincent Vang, my widowed sister devoted herself to loving and raising her young kids in the shadow of her first husband’s death. Ask anyone, and they will tell you of her kindness, community conscious mindset, and caring of those around her. My bother-in-law, Chu Vincent Vang, was also well liked and together, they shared a circle of caring family and friends.

Both were kind to family and friends alike; their loss grieves us beyond what mere words can capture.

If you can, please know these funds will be used to aid her children in meeting any obligations for final expenses, burial costs, and anything the kids may need to tide them over during this difficult period.
