Ultra Marathon for Mental Health

We are called the "Pace Shavers", a small team of runners and cyclists who will be doing two significant projects for mental health awareness to raise funds for Beyond Blue. Our first project is to run from Brisbane to Empire Vale (Northern Rivers - the personal aspect is that floods ravaged this community, like many others. Our homeless neighbours lived in our garage until recently, and people in the area have suffered from issues of PTSD as they have tried to rebuild their lives. Two of our runners recently lost their teenage brother to leukemia. How their family manages their grief is inspiring, and sends a powerful message of the importance of community during a crisis. It has given rise to resilience in themselves and gratitude from others. The message for our first project will be "managing grief through collective action and support". In March 2023, we will launch our second project.

Pace Shavers is an acronym for our names and a hat tip to the beauty of teamwork and community. We will be able to work quicker and more powerfully when we work together, thus shaving pace off the time taken if we were to go it alone.
