Pacifica Safety Net

KPFA Safety Net is a community of concerned listeners whose mission is to ensure that the radio station survives this historic, unprecedented time of economic upheaval and instability. We are dedicated to raising money, outside of the purview of foundation management, to protect the local station from the immediate danger we face. We are raising money for a “safety net” of funds to protect the station from the chronic chaos of Pacifica, whether they be legal, operational or otherwise. Our mission is durable because it was created to serve - out of a righteous spirit, interested only in keeping the station on the air so it can continue to provide programming that improves and protects the health, wealth and rights of listeners in the community the station serves and worldwide on the web.
Sadly, the Pacifica Foundation is currently run by a bloated, dysfunctional and conflicted Board of directors. The Board is incapable of raising funds or managing this media treasure, which is leading The Pacifica Foundation to the edge of collapse. Pacifica’s assets could likely be sold to repay an outstanding loan, as well as other debts for which they have no funds. In fact, its board recently authorized the sale of the KPFK studios in Los Angeles due to their inability to pay their vendors. Their deepening financial crisis threatens the stations as we know them, possibly knocking them off the air for good, or worse turning them into the 24/7 voice of quack cures, alternative beauty products, conspiracy mongers and marginal sectarian splinter groups. The Pacifica board has also engaged in other activities that put KPFA's continued existence, from its staff to the programs we depend on, in doubt. Several independent audit firms have concluded that the future of The Pacifica Foundation is in serious jeopardy.
The question presented to you is: what can you do to protect KPFA? We are offering our fellow listeners a chance to support and enhance our important work with The KPFA Safety Net: an opportunity to join a community of people who share a collective vision to keep KPFA independent. KPFA Safety Net is powered solely by donations from supporters like you. Thank you for your generous donation, which is entirely tax-deductible.
