About the Fundraiser

On January 8th 2023, I will be travelling to Ethiopia with the group "Building for Children" who are involved in building and refurbishing facilities in a school called Sebeta School for the Blind. In 2019, the group built a dormitory for children to safely wash and sleep. This year the group will be working on washing and toilet facilities. Building for Children are a group of volunteers from North-East Galway.

All money collected via GoFundMe will be going towards Flights, Building Materials and Supplies for our January 2023 project.

Sebeta School for the Blind

Sebeta School for the Blind provides education and maintenance for visually impaired children. It is a residential school home to about 370 blind or visually impaired children, both girls and boys. The children live at the school and stay in the dorms (until they pass grade 6); after that, they take lodgings outside the campus in the town for two more years. This is challenging – because of the insufficient means, safety threats, and opportunities for abuse from the outside world. Thanks to the help of volunteers, their facilities are improving, giving the children a better chance of a truly independent life, with better opportunities to get a degree and find a job. About half the teachers are blind themselves.

Donations made to this GoFundMe will be spent on Flights, Building Materials, Supplies and Logistics for the 2023 project. Vaccines will be paid for separately, out of the volunteers own pockets.
