Paediatric Nursing Volunteering in Tanzania
Donation protected
Welcome everyone,
My name is Elena Turpin, I am a Childrens Student Nurse & I am now completing the third and final year of my degree before qualifying.
I have been given a unique opportunity to travel with Work The World to Dar es Salaam - Tanzania, to volunteer to work alongside health professionals caring for sick babies and children throughout the country's hospitals, community, orphanages and schools.
During my trip, I will work across various departments such as paediatric oncology, infectious diseases unit, burns unit, neonatal & maternity unit, and surgery experience. In these departments, I will observe and work with children with malaria and paediatric HIV, an opportunity I am unlikely to experience again.
These three weeks of my adventure will allow me to gain new nursing skills, develop my knowledge and benefit my future career within the NHS. I will observe different cultural attitudes towards care, religious beliefs affecting practice, patients who can't afford the most basic treatments and extremely late presentations to hospitals and advanced conditions.
As soon as I learned about this opportunity, it has always been something I have wanted to be a part of, as most of my friends & family would know. However, being a student nurse for the last three years has been challenging, and this experience comes out at an expensive cost. Until September 2023, I will complete the fundraising needed to raise funds for my travel and create well-needed packages for the orphanages.
I can't thank anyone enough for donating & sharing my page to help me achieve my dream.
