Pain BC Fundraiser, In Loving Memory of Maia
On May 29th, 2023, our dear friend Maia's soul passed on from this earth. In honour of Maia, I will be dedicating my next ultramarathon - an 80km distance on July 8th - to her memory, while taking the opportunity to raise money for Pain BC, a charity focused on advocating for and providing support to people living with chronic pain and illness, an issue Maia was deeply committed to. As many of you know, in 2013 Maia survived a horrific car accident which left her with chronic physical and mental pain. She was a true grassroots champion who used this experience to support others in related circumstances through @livingnowwithmaia, through her website, through her Facebook support group, and through her many podcast appearances, blog posts, and peer to peer support and teaching sessions. She was an exceptional human being with a rare ability to tirelessly give back and touch the hearts of the people who came into her life.
You can donate a lump sum immediately through the gofundme, or if you want to give me some extra motivation on race day, you can pledge a "per km" amount - just DM me your pledge amount and I'll touch base with you after the race to confirm my total km's so you can donate the applicable amount. When paid through the gofundme, all donations go directly to Pain BC - I will not personally be processing any donations.
