Pain Relief For Sofia

20 year old Sofia has Crohn’s disease.  A debilitating disease with no cure.  While Sofia”s friends are celebrating their youthful age of 20, Sofia is suffering and her quality of life is poor.  She sleeps her day away, so she doesn’t have to deal with the pain.  She has had rapid weight loss because she can’t eat or is too afraid to eat, due to the side effects from the medication and excruciating bowel movements.  She is experiencing a lot of side effects such as: joint pain, psoriasis, fatigue, chronic cough, cutaneous open sores, mouth sores and anemia.  Her parents are in agony
watching their daughter diminish to the pain, so they will do anything to help her
feel better.  Sofia needs Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a great option for Crohn’s patients, as it provides wound healing and pain relief, something Sofia desperately needs. However, as of 2019, HBOT has been removed by the insurance companies “approved” list!  
HBOT is the most promising therapy for Sofia and has provided her pain relief in the past, but is not covered by her insurance.  The recommended number of HBOT treatments is 40, at a cost of $195 per treatment or a total of $7,800.00 all out of pocket.

Sofia’s mother has given up employment, so she can care for and help her through the pain.  Sofia’s father is the sole provider for his family of four and sometimes works from home, so he can provide relief for his wife.
