School Power in Southern Ethiopia
The journey begins! Elaine Tucci and Stephanie Schlatter, along with Aklilu and Helen, two Ethiopian artists, will soon be our eyes and ears in Kololo School and winding their way through southern Ethiopia. $10,000 hires all of the teachers and provides all the materials that a school like Kololo needs to operate for one year. Spread the word...and let's see how much we can put into the Kololo pot during January.
Families often name schooling
as their top priority, even above other basic needs for health and water.
In schools like Kololo, children are getting to hear stories, ask questions, and see print and
picture books for the very first time.
And in several Kembata-Tembaro communities where we haven't been able to build a school but
children are still hungry to read, we're experimenting. A "horse powered" literacy project goes out
from the Kololo School and is reaching hundreds of kids.
Help us strengthen Kololo School and celebrate the power that comes when people can tell their stories.
Artists Stephanie Schlatter and Elaine Tucci have committed
themselves to coming back with stories and videos and art that Ethiopia Reads can use to
raise awareness and funds to keep the school going far into the future.
The world has plenty of grim stories about Ethiopia...
Now it's time to paint joy"”to look for the strengths of families and the power
of possibilities.
All of the Ethiopia Reads schools and libraries can thrive. Each one can become a community center and a place of exploration, ideas and dreams.
Help us bring more smiles, books, reading and big ideas to the children of Ethiopia! DONATE TODAY!
