Welcome to Paisley Opera, an opera company with the local community at heart!
We believe that opera should be for everyone, regardless of musical experience or background. Our inclusive approach embraces individuals from all walks of life, encouraging them to explore their passion for opera and create lasting connections. Our high-scale productions also give our members the rare opportunity to perform alongside professional soloists and a full orchestra. From seasoned performers to those taking their first steps on the stage, we welcome and nurture all. With your support, we can continue bringing the joy of music to our community and stage a spectacular production of Verdi's Macbeth.
About Paisley Opera:
Paisley Opera started in 2017 with a simple invitation: "Dare to Sing Opera!" Since then, we have grown into a vibrant community of over 50 singers within the Renfrewshire area. Our chorus is open to all, with no auditions or fees required, allowing everyone to experience the thrill of performing beautiful works of music alongside professional soloists and a full orchestra. We're proud of our Paisley culture, which is why we always perform opera in a special "Paisley" translation, making it accessible and relatable to all. Our community chorus gives anyone and everyone the chance to perform beautiful music that is usually reserved for those who have trained for many years at conservatoires, while also nurturing strong friendships within our group.
Our Past Achievements:
Over the years, we have delighted audiences with concerts, pop-up events, and three full-scale opera productions. Last year, we performed "A Paisley Kiss," our unique rendition of Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana, in the underpass next to Paisley Gilmour Street train station. Our productions have not only entertained but also brought together people from all walks of life!
The Goal:
We are excited to announce our upcoming production of Verdi's Macbeth (The Scottish play you cannae say!) and while some funding has already been secured, we really need your help to make it a resounding success. Our production will bring together a diverse range of amateur and professional performing artists from singers, actors, dancers, stage crew, costume and set designers all to achieve one goal: to bring the people of Paisley together and enrich our great town with community-centered opera. Taking on such a task costs money, therefore we're asking anyone who's able to give a few pennies towards the cause. We aim to raise funds for essential elements such as set/props, costumes, and to support our talented director, musical director, lighting designer, stage manager, emerging and professional singers who are all an integral part of our production and our community. We want to welcome the people of Paisley and beyond to experience the magic of opera in an accessible environment. Whether you're already an opera enthusiast or you’re just curious, we invite you to join us. By supporting our production, you'll contribute to a diverse and inclusive cultural landscape, fostering a love for music and community spirit.
