Donation protected

How can you help?
Please help us reach the most vulnerable families. Support our appeal to reach another 200 people with shelter and non-food items support required to build their lives.

We require 12,000 CHF (approx. 12,250 USD), which will provide the most vulnerable families with:
  • 25 shelter units for 200 people whose houses are destroyed during floods. Each shelter will accommodate eight people (household plus extended family). This shelter can host families for at least the next two years, costing around 6,900 CHF (approx. 7,044 USD).
  • Non-food items for 200 people, including water containers, shovels to clear rubble and help rebuild mud houses, mosquito nets as dengue is rampant in the affected areas, and floor mats to sleep - cost around 4300 CHF (4,390 USD).
  • Misc: there are 800 CHF under miscellaneous, which will be distributed in the end to reach further people. This could be in the form of cash for the most vulnerable.

Who are we, and what is our approach?

We are a network and not an NGO. Our network comprises friends, family, volunteers and affected community leaders. Since the end of August 2022, we have delivered assistance to over 500 people with food rations and close to 300 people with non-food items and shelter in district Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, which is one of the most affected areas.

My brother Syed Farrukh Hussain is leading this effort, with the help of volunteers and affected communities. As his business activities are scaled down due to floods, he is putting his business assets such as trucks, warehouse and staff time to good use, in assisting affected families. As a professional humanitarian, I am providing him with technical advice and helping him with fund raising activities. He is uniquely positioned to provide logistics and deliver relief due to his local knowledge and access to village level community leaders.

Our approach is to visit the affected villages and identify the most vulnerable families with the help of community leaders and provide aid, including logistics and shelter assembly in affected villages. Unlike other NGOs, we do not have overhead expenditures.

Many gracious donations from family, friends and an extended network of individuals in Pakistan and outside Pakistan are contributing to our efforts.

Our delivery cost only includes patrol for trucks, and we do not include any salaries or compensation for our or volunteer time in this appeal.

How are the floods affecting people in Pakistan?

The flood has affected 33 million people in Pakistan. Over 15% of the country's 220 million population. That is around half of the population of France or around four times the population of Switzerland. Authorities estimate that almost 1,500 people have lost their lives in the devastating flooding in Pakistan. More than 1.14 million houses have been damaged, and over 765,000 homes have been destroyed across the country. (Figures according to UNOCHA Sitrep)

Over the past week, roads reported being damaged or destroyed nationwide nearly doubled to over 12,700 kilometres. The number of damaged or destroyed bridges increased by 40 per cent to 375 affected bridges. More than 5,500 undamaged schools are reportedly being used to shelter people who have been displaced. Another 22,000 schools have reportedly been damaged – over 17,400 in Sindh, over 2,300 in Balochistan, over 1,400 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and some 1,250 in Punjab.

Nearly 936,000 livestock have been lost since mid-June, with severe repercussions on the livelihoods of affected households and the supply of animal products, including milk and meat. Large swathes of farmland under water, crops and stockpiles washed away, homes and livelihoods wiped out.

Over 1,460 public health facilities have been damaged, while medicines, medical equipment and vaccines have been destroyed. Increased malaria, dengue, acute watery diarrhoea (AWD) and cholera are reported and expected to rise in the coming months.
