Palestinian Voices

My name is Cara Marianna. I am a writer and co-editor of The Floutist , a Substack newsletter that publishes commentary and essays on a variety of subjects—world events, foreign policy, politics, culture, on occasion personal reflections. In response to the distressing events in Israel and Gaza since last October, we are fundraising for a trip of two weeks I will make to Israel and the West Bank. We are calling this project “Palestinian Voices.”

 

The voices of Palestinians are rarely heard in the United States. Among much else, this undermines the peace process. There is no hope for a lasting resolution to the conflict so long as the media, public discourse, and U.S. policy are dominated by a one-sided agenda. My intent is to listen to a variety of Palestinians and make their voices heard by means of my reports. This project is my effort to do what I can, as many of us are eager to do, to contribute positively to a just end to this crisis. To bear witness: This is the project. 

 

I propose to make this journey in mid-April. This is why I am now fundraising. With your help I'll be able to spend my proposed two weeks in the West Bank talking with Palestinians from all sectors of society, bringing their experiences and perspectives directly to you and many others. In this way I invite you to join a joint project to honor the voices of Palestinians as they deserve to be honored and heard.

 

We have planned this trip carefully. Your donations will help to cover air travel, ground transportation, hotels, daily sustenance, and the cost of translators and guides. We propose to give all contributors a six-month complimentary subscription to The Floutist. You will of course have priority access to the work I produce during and subsequent to my journey.
