Pamela Leslie Hux Emergency Medical Fund

Pamela Leslie Hux, our dear friend, has advocated for countless special need families for more than 25 years. Pamela's introduction into the field of special needs children advocacy started with the birth of her own Autistic son, Arjan, whom she has cared for the past 30 years. Through her advocacy work (much of it done on a pro bono basis) Pamela saved many children (and their families). They would not be here today without the intervention, love and support she provided. We count ourselves among those lucky families and want to let you know that our friend Pamela is in serious need of our help.

On January 12th, Pamela suffered a cardiac arrest for an unknown length of time and her brain suffered a severe injury from a lack of oxygen. We didn’t think she was going to survive it. But survive she did and has made greater progress than the doctors could have ever predicted. However, because of a lack of oxygen to the brain- her emotion, speech and memory centers have all been affected. She has had to learn how to talk, to swallow, to use her hands, to make eye contact, and to eat on her own. Pamela works hard every day to master these skills and gain new ones such as sitting in a chair and walking. In other words, she has had round the clock care in both a hospital setting and rehab facility. She has had both setbacks and successes and progress is slow. Pamels's road is a long one and also very difficult as her brain continues to heal itself…and it takes time.

Pamela has been surrounded by many close friends and family who have supported her emotionally and physically and through all of her struggles, Pamela’s spirit persists! Pamela needs sooooo much more of OUR support and help!

Her sister, Carol has taken on Pamela's life struggles and has been with her nonstop every day. She organizes all her therapies, advocates for Pamela with the medical staff and pays for extra support so Pamela is not alone. Pamela’s struggles have become Carol’s struggles, and she is doing all she can to promote Pamela’s full recovery with love, persistence, continuity and graciousness. Carol has become a true advocate for Pamela.

In order to make any type of substantial recovery with physical, occupational and speech therapy, it will require much more time and money. WE need to provide more therapy to get any traction in Pamela’s recovery. WE have realized that for Pamela to make substantial progress she needs more therapeutic support than is currently provided.

We are reaching out to all of her friends and family to see if you would be able to be part of the community that has developed to support her. We are hoping to raise $120,000 to cover her medical and rehabilitation expenses for the next year at least. No contribution is too small, and we are asking folks to be as generous as possible during this very difficult period of Pamela’s life. Please feel free to send this on to anyone who may know Pamela or support her. Pamela has progressed further than the medical expectations because of the love and community that have surrounded her thus far. We are looking to increase that community of love and support and are asking you to be part of it. PLEASE help us support Pamela in her recovery as she has given so much to so many.
