A little about Pamela for those who may be visiting and do not know her personally:
Pamela has dedicated her life to helping families in need. She has been a counselor for 26 years and for the last 13 years, she has been the director of the Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention in Dothan, Alabama. She is constantly trying to understand why people are hurting and how to help them heal.
The Exchange Center provides a variety of services to families with different needs and Pamela has grown those services every year she has been there. She applies for grants and organizes fundraisers to keep current services going and to add new programs that aid in the development of healthy dynamics for at-risk families. If there is a need in our community, she wants to provide a solution. She works tirelessly for these families. She is on the phone at all hours of the night, answering emails, writing grants, giving talks, and educating community leaders, teachers, first responders and anyone else who will listen. Her heart, desire and drive are to help those who are truly in need and help them break the cycle of trauma and abuse. The Center provides everything from therapy to help families heal from past traumas and develop healthy coping skills and dynamics, to individual therapy, group therapy, new parent support, in-home support, prevention education and much more. Long story short... Dothan needs Pam.
While there is much more that can be said for her work in the community, let's dive into Pamela's personal life just a little. She loves life. She loves it more than anyone you'll meet. When she is on a trip, she will explore every nook and cranny these small towns and big cities have to offer. You will find her at the beach, in the pool, in the mountains, in the shops, painting, eating, hiking, climbing, taking pictures by the road, pictures by beautiful waterfalls, pictures, pictures, pictures and more pictures. The reason for all of these pictures is so that she can look back at everything she did with the people she loves. She wants to enjoy every moment, every memory and every aspect of life. She laughs all the time. She tells jokes all the time. She has a passion for life that is rare and remarkable. She makes everyone around her feel special, loved and happy. She is adored and adorable.
Pamela has two beautiful children, Patrick and Haley, and a wonderful husband, Jeff. Her son just graduated college and started his first "big boy" job and her daughter is going into her senior year. They are both extraordinary, loving, kind, funny, smart human beings. Pam's sister, Becky, is her lifelong best friend and also one of the best people you will ever meet. She has lifelong friends who love her dearly and she is continuously building relationships with new people because they want to be around her, to be a part of what she is doing. There is a theme here. Amazing people gravitate toward amazing people and Pam is the center of one of those universes full of amazing people.
The bad news.
Pam recently found out that she has Stage 4 lung cancer (she is not a smoker). She went to the doctor for what she thought was appendicitis at the end of July, and they told her that her appendix was fine, but her lungs, liver and spine were not and more tests a few weeks later would reveal that it was spreading quickly. She was able to get a referral to MD Anderson. It is one of the best places in the country for cancer treatment. She started treatment a couple of weeks ago and the expenses are going to be immense. Insurance will help but it won't cover everything she is going to need. She will be traveling back and forth for treatment and there have already been a couple of setbacks/surprises along the way. We are all very confident that this is a battle Pam will win but the journey will be long and every ounce of support is greatly appreciated. She wasn't a big fan of the idea of doing a gofundme but she did finally cave. She is humble. This isn't an easy ask for her. She kept saying there are people who need it more but we told her that we all need her and her work in this community and her role in her family and friends' lives is irreplaceable.
Nothing is expected and if all you can provide are prayers, they will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this page and thank you for your prayers and support. Much Love.
