Pamela Savage's Medical Fund

Pamela Savage visited a dermatologist to see about an unusual rash on her arm on Monday October 9, 2017. They referred her to her local hospital, where she was admitted and treatment started for a bacterial skin infection. The infection worsened, and the hospital decided to transfer her to a larger facility, Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, GA, on Friday, October 13th. Three surgeries later to remove infected tissue and to clean and drain the wound, she is still looking at weeks in recovery and the potential for additional surgeries is still very real.

Though Pamela does have medical insurance through her job as an executive assistant, she does not have disability insurance, so this time away from work is unpaid. Her coworkers very generously donated as much of their own PTO as they could; combined with the remaining PTO Pamela had, a full paycheck this week was assured. However, no such assurance is forthcoming for the paycheck due two weeks from now. In fact, by her estimation, within one month there is no doubt that she will fall behind on all of her bills, including her mortgage, car payment, and yes, her health insurance because she still owes the monthly premium whether she’s working any hours or not.

Even with insurance, Pamela’s portion of the medical bills related to this issue is already mounting. As anyone who has suffered through a major medical emergency already knows, it is not just about getting through the initial scare, surgery, and recovery. It is also about keeping hearth and home together while trying to heal. Studies have proven that the impact of psychological stress on wound healing is significant – the risk of infection and other complications is heightened; hospital stays lengthen; patient discomfort is magnified; and the return to activities of daily living is delayed.

The purpose of this campaign is to take the worry of money and bills off of Pamela’s mind so that she can focus on healing. Pamela is an amazing person – dedicated to her family, loving and generous to all living things, a hard worker who approaches every situation with an optimistic perspective, and a fiercely loyal friend. She has a boundless store of empathy for people and their stories, and she has an uncanny ability for saying the exact right thing at the exact time someone needs to hear it. She also firmly believes in the mind’s ability to heal the body – as long as the mind is able to focus on that healing.

We are hoping to raise enough money to pay Pamela’s major bills – medical insurance premiums, mortgage, car payment, and utilities – for the next six months. Our most fervent hope at this moment is that she’s well on her way to full health and working again before six months are up; however, we recognize the very real possibility that this infection could keep her down for much longer than we are anticipating right now. Conservatively, we would need to raise $12,300 to meet this need. We are imploring you for help. Whatever you can give will be more appreciated than you can imagine. If you can’t give, please consider sharing our campaign in hopes that someone else can. Thank you – please watch the page for updates.
