August 5, 2015, a dear friend, Pam Rhodes, lost her husband and best friend Charles. They had been married for almost 33 years. Charles was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago and fought a valiant battle against the disease up until the end.
Charles was the only breadwinner, due to Pam being the caregiver for Charles' mother, who lived with them for several years until her passing right before Charles received his diagnosis.
Charles began chemo treatments which had an unexpected effect on him - early onset Alzheimer's. This incapacitated him and he was unable to return to work.
Charles' disability pay was insufficient to pay bills and his massive medical expenses during his extended illness. All their savings were exhausted and when Charles died all income ceased. Charles had a small life insurance policy that covered only his memorial and burial. It wasn't enough to purchase his marker for the cemetery.
Pam is in dire need of help! During the course of Charles' illness their home went into foreclosure. She kept this secret as to not allow Charles to have more concerns before he passed away. She has many needs: a place to live, utility deposits, and a dependable vehicle.
Pam plans to return to the workforce, but until she can find employment she needs help starting completely over as a widow in her mid-fifties.
For years, this couple were the first to give to those in need. ( I was a recipient of their generosity) It's humbling for her to be in this position, but this is her reality at this present time.
