Pam’s Healing Journey and Recovery
Hi everyone my name is Pam, I am mommy to Hunter 3 years old, Sawyer 9 months old, and wife to the Best Husband Steven.
On December 23, at approximately 1045 pm, as I drove to my job as a Labor and Delivery RN at the community hospital near my home, my life was turned upside down. I was a victim of a random act of violence. Someone had decided to throw a grapefruit sized rock off an overpass, down to the freeway below, and into the front windshield of my car. I was immediately hit in the face with the rock and could no longer see, my first thoughts were that I would never see my sweet boys faces again, or be able to watch them as they grew up. In this moment I thought this was the end for me. Fortunately, I did not lose consciousness and was able to safely pull the car to the side of the freeway and use Siri to call 911.
After arriving at the hospital, and having several head and body scans, the doctors told me that I had sustained very extensive facial fractures to my right orbital bone, both sides of my nose, both eyebrows, sinuses, and right cheek. That night I was taken to surgery right away to assess the damage to my right eyeball. There is a small cut noted on the back side of my eye, the prognosis of my right eye is guarded for now, but I am praying hard and hopeful that I will regain sight with time.
On Christmas Day I was back to the OR for a 6+ hour surgery to repair all of my facial fractures. My doctor informed us that he was able to repair the majority of the fractures but my right frontal sinus may not drain properly, and I may have numbness in my scalp and face permanently due to severed nerves.
My face is swollen, I have an eye patch and in pain, but was given the green light to go home yesterday afternoon, so I am home now surrounded by family, where I belong.
During my stay in the hospital with the help of my husband and nurses, everyone was sensitive to the fact that I am still breastfeeding, and helped me to pump and dump several times a day to maintain somewhat of a supply for my 9 month old.
I know that I have a long recovery ahead, and since I cannot work during this time, and Steven is staying home to take care of me and our children, we’ve created this page in hopes that any donation that anyone can spare would be greatly appreciated to help offset some of our upcoming bills. My venmo name is @pam-romesha (no numbers) or Zelle 925-586-708O if you feel more inclined to donate there. Please feel free to share with everyone, the more the merrier! Please hold your loved ones extra close today, you never know... Happy Holidays and thank you for reading my story.
