Medical expenses for PAN Vasculitis with ANCA

Hi, My name is Christiaan Haasbroek, diagnosed with PAN vasculitis ANCA positive and Hashimoto disease. For those of you who know me, know that most of my life I was active and working in Hospitality, spending 14+ hours a day working and running around, passionate about the industry. Many country clubs and resorts all over the USA, South Africa and Europe.

The pandemic was almost over still being very careful wearing mask and sanitizing everything in June 2022 I got COVID 19 and this is where my health troubles started. Shortly after covid I continued to get one chest infection after the other taking it’s toll on my system.

January was a great month, we received the amazing news that we are finally going to be parents and that we are expecting a little one.

February 2023 I had again another chest infection, the worst one yet. I ended up going to the emergency room in the middle of the night as I could not breath anymore. After multiple tests and some medication I went home, starting a series of antibiotics and doctors appointments. 

First week of March 2023 I started to get rashes all over my legs and my first thought was that I have an allergic reaction to the antibiotics, needless to say more tests continued, Doctor after Doctor , test after test took its toll.

After a couple of Doctors and tests and scans we received theFinal Diagnosis it’s PAN vasculitis with Anca positive. PAN Vasculitis is an Auto Immune disease involving the small and medium veins in your body, basically your imune system attacks the veins and all vital organs are faire game especially Kidneys, Heart and Brain. Already having problems with the liver is a down side as treatment cannot be as aggressive as the doctor would want. Chemo treatments and immune suppressants, CT scans and Eco’s, biopsies and doctor visits come at a great expense.

The treatment prescribed is Rituximab that cost €9095.14  for the initial doses and now the follow up treatment will be €8945.70 

Treatment for PAN vasculitis is extensive and expensive, with treatment the disease is manageable and we are hoping and praying that this can go into remission quickly so that I can enjoy quality time with my wife and soon to be new born son.

I am not usually someone that asks for help, here I am now asking so that I can manage a disease I never knew even existed. 31 per million people are diagnosed with PAN vasculitis.

Any funds raised that is more than that needed for treatment will be donated to the Vasculitis Foundation in UK
