Panamanians fighting environmental destruction!
Donation protected
Right now Panama is several weeks in to unprecedented nation-wide protests. You can read more about it here, but the summary is that the people of Panama are expressing their fury that Canada’s First Quantum Minerals was granted a contract to restart an open-pit copper mine. This mine is surrounded by rain forest and communities of Indigenous people who are already suffering the consequences of the mine, including drinking water so contaminated it is unsafe to drink. The protestors have thus far been successful in shutting down the roads in and out of the mine, however they are in need of food, water, and other supplies. This is where we can help! My friend and climate activist Renata Sponer has been out there every day, even as protestors are being shot and killed. Please donate along with me, and all proceeds will go directly through Renata to the Indigenous communities and other protestors putting their safety on the line to protect their land and people. A little money will go a long way! I will share photos from those on the front line as I get them from Renata.
