In one way or another, this pandemic has affected everyone. I’ve come to deeply appreciate the things I had taken for granted and even disliked. I am currently a Junior in The Lawrenceville School, a boarding school in NJ. Like many students, I too am going through online schooling on top of my parents’ relentless oversight. Indefinite quarantine has given me — and evidently my parents — a lot of free time, so I started to search for things I could do to help flatten the curve.
By this point, I had returned to back home in Seoul, South Korea. Korea is one of few countries that swiftly took bold steps to fight the virus. Experts say measures such as contact tracing and prevalent testing allowed Korea to contain the virus. What was more evident, however, was widespread use of masks. Masks have become a symbol of communal effort, generosity, and conviction beyond their ability to prevent cross-transmission. I felt the urge to share the hopeful sentiment I found in Korea back those in America.
A couple days later, the CDC recommended that the public wear cloth masks. Masks, in addition to the social distancing and sanitation practices, would now be required to essential errands such as grocery shopping. Unfortunately, the readily apparent truth is that there is a severe shortage of protective equipment, let alone masks.
That's why I started Pantect. To raise awareness of the benefits of mask usage; to rally behind our heroes who are putting themselves at risk for our safety; to help those in our communities in more challenging socio-economic situations.
At Pantect, we believe that an unwavering communal effort is at the crux of overcoming one of the hardest tests of our resilience and unity. I urge you. I urge you, on behalf of determined high school students working with me, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 for our loved ones, our most vulnerable, and our country.
