It has been a few months now since Paolo passed away and we all miss him dearly. While the initial shock of his sudden passing may have subsided, the needs of his two young children, Ale and Eva have only grown. We have set up this GoFundMe campaign to provide financial support for Ale and Eva as they grow up without their father.

We are raising the funds with the intent to place them in Trust for the children, and not transferring them directly in a lump sum. The sentiment here is to replace Paolo’s monthly contributions with the trust to ensure that the children’s wellbeing is maintained, and the family supported.

On this basis there is some legal stuff we have to say: you should note that the legal status of any contribution that you kindly make is an outright gift to Simone Sasson, who is collecting the funds on behalf of the trust.

It is Simone’s absolute intention to settle those funds received on a bare trust for the benefit of Paolo Collamati’s children, Ale and Eva. Simone will be the settlor of the trust. The trustees of the trust will be Shane Clifford, Simone Sasson and Edmond Brooks.

The trust will help meet financial expenses for Ale and Eva until they are 18. This will most likely take the form of a monthly payment for their benefit plus occasional additional payments for specific expenses that Ale and Eva might have. Once they reach 18 years of age, Ale and Eva will gain control of any remaining funds.

We have engaged lawyers to help ensure that the trust is set up correctly and that it will be compliant with various tax and other regulations. The costs of the lawyers are being paid separately i.e. these costs will not be deducted from any contributions. If you feel you need to, you may also wish to take your own legal advice on the tax implications of donating.

We will host a Q&A session with the trust lawyer by video link to explain the rationale for the approach and how the trust will work. Please let us know if you would like to attend the Q&A session so we can find a time that works for everyone.
