Papas and Pollo owners Nicholas Tappan and Maureen Purtill are both lifelong west Sonoma County residents, and are proud to support their local food system and community. Nick grew up moving around Occidental and Sebastopol. As a young man he worked at Murphy's Irish restaurant as a busboy and then manager for seven years. It was there that he developed a love for food and found the inspiration to run his own restaurant some day. He also worked construction so he could travel to Baja and other parts of Latin America whenever possible. Maureen is a seventh generation Sonoma County resident and a descendent of Maria Carrillo, the first Californio to settle in Sonoma County in the mid 1800's when California was still part of Mexico. They live with their two children, Ezra and Zara Sofia, in west Sonoma County.
