PaPa’s Journey: From Cancer & Sepsis To Recovery!

*Papa, I just don’t want you to suffer!*

My father, Johnson W. Walker, is fighting for his life at just 68 years old. After enduring countless battles, he's now quadriplegic and bedridden, suffering from severe pressure wounds, anemia, and isolation.

As his primary caregiver and medical advocate, I've witnessed his courage and resilience. But now, he needs our help more than ever.

My parents, are my two greatest role models exceedingly intelligent, humble, and compassionate. They retain kindness and resiliency in their hearts and souls despite significant ups and downs.

"I cherish you, Mama and Papa." 

After surviving a heart attack in 2016 and multiple strokes in 2018, he lost everything he had worked so hard to achieve. 

Papa’s life took another sharp turn for the worse in 2022, receiving a colon cancer diagnosis and needing a colectomy.

At his follow-up visit, the findings of a biopsy revealed he had early-stage prostate cancer and started regular therapy.

Papa was still thankful for another chance to live and remained courageous with the love and support of his family and friends.

In the autumn of 2022, he was admitted to the emergency for a severe urinary tract infection.  This expanded throughout his spine, developing into an abscess that compressed his spinal cord, and left him permanently paralyzed below his  diaphragm downward.

He worked very hard to stay strong for his family during his seven months of rehabilitation while he learned to use a wheelchair.  As his hope and faith gradually faded, so did his health.  Papa remains hospitalized since the summer of 2023. 

Due to the overcapacity of our hospitals, Papa's recuperation will not be receiving the necessary medical resources, treatments, therapies, or complex-quality care.

He still has a great will to live but now requires 24 hours full assistance from his caregivers.

Watching my elderly father struggle during these advancing years, has motivated me to act and start a fundraising campaign.

Through the grace of God and with your help, I have no doubt that Papa will make a full 

recovery and be able to enjoy his remaining years on this planet.

Our key objective is to support his safe transfer from the hospital into a private home, with easy access to medical care and resources, and give him round-the-clock care from healthcare professionals.

During this period we will learn the necessary skills to help Papa come to terms with his disabilities and realize that life is still worthwhile as a handicap.

Although most people cannot fathom what our beloved father has gone through thus far, the fight is just getting started. 

Papa and our family are still going strong and positive every day because of the love and support that we continue to receive from friends and family. 

We will always be appreciative of the kind words and encouragement from everyone who has learned of Papa's struggle. We firmly think that Papa is still alive because of the love, prayers, and optimism that you shown to him.

We are raising awareness among our family, friends, and community as we learn more about the numerous challenges faced by people with physical disabilities, particularly quadriplegics. Despite all the hardships, we are eggar to find peace and joy on this difficult journey. 

We are also committed to locating the tools and support to help illuminate Papa's darkness, regardless of how long this new, unpredictable path takes. Even for a few while, grant him mental and emotional serenity.

This fundraiser will support Papa’s battle with cancer and sepsis infections.

All funds is used for his medical needs, ongoing care, transport, legal fees, treatments, therapies, and round-the-clock medical assistance. 

This will ease some of the financial strain on our family and allow us to concentrate on Papa's care and recovery process.
