Paralyzed in Paradise- Heather Grossman

Donation protected
The children of Heather Grossman - Joseph, Ronald and Lauren - are writing this as a last resort effort to get assistance for our family.

Heather Grossman is kind, passionate and rich in her faith. You would never guess how much Heather has really been through by seeing her positive attitude and love for life.

Heather Grossman was a victim of marital abuse not once, but twice. One of which attempted to kill her and one that harmed her physically as a quadriplegic. Heather married and had 3 children with her first abuser that turned violent quickly. After being harmed and threatened, she knew she needed to make a better life for her and her 3 children. After divorce, constant threats, custody battles and even remarrying to a new man, she was faced with her abuser hiring a hitman. His attempt to kill her succeeded as she died on impact of being shot in her car. She was quickly revived back to life to soon find out she would be a quadriplegic for the remainder of her life.

After meeting her second husband, Heather was sure she had found her happily ever after. He was with her in the car when she was shot and he suffered minor injury. During her recovery and rehab he was there helping her heal. To everyone's surprise, he suddenly turned violent. He would stab her with forks, prevent her from breathing and even abused Heather's 3 children. Even though she felt trapped, she mustered the courage to leave yet another situation to better her life for her and her children.

Former Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery says Heather is a personal hero of mine who epitomizes perseverance and a never quit attitude. Her efforts to speak up for victims of crime and to raise awareness about domestic violence are just a couple of examples of how she has turned adversity into an opportunity to make a difference for others. Now is an opportunity to make a difference for her.

Heather says she wakes up everyday with a purpose and dedicates her life to her family, helping others overcome domestic abuse, and helping others that find themselves in similar health situations. She was told she would only live 7 years but through her faith and her mother's care she is still alive and well 25 years later.

Al Johnson says "Heather is an amazing woman. Despite all she has gone through, her love of life and will to survive has been an inspiration for us all."

Heather is now faced with a new stressor in her life, receiving proper care to keep her alive and the costs that come along with it. The once family business is now closed due to her Father's death. When Heather's father was alive, he worked hard to run the business successfully and the business paid for Heather's medical expenses. Since then, Heather's mother has taken her into her home and supported her financially to ensure she has the care she needs. Heather's parents dedicated their lives and their financials and even deprived themselves in order to provide for Heather's well being. The dedication Heather's parents provided was to ensure Heather had the proper care and that her 3 children were well taken care of. Heather requires 24/7 medical attention and specific equipment to ensure she is breathing properly. As you can imagine, expenses have added up very quickly over the years and each month. Her monthly expenses are $9,600 every month. Her mother's funds (who is in her 80's) have now been exhausted due to the high cost of the medical attention that is needed. Even after the financial support she receives from the state and federal side, she is still not able to cover all her bills. Heather would not be able to stay in a nursing home due to the intensity of her care and is very concerned for her future.

Friend, Steve Twist, said it best, "Heather defines heroic. She has turned her catastrophic victimization into a life of service to her children and to other crime victims. Now she needs us to help her. No one is more deserving."

Anything that you can donate to help Heather, a heroic, brave and positive being, would go a long way and help her well being,
