Paris' Transition Fund

Introduction
Hiya, my name is Paris (birth and transition name!) and I'm an independent game developer, retail worker and recently out trans woman.

This is an ongoing fundraiser that will help me beat my dysphoria and fully realise my feminine self. My primary goal is to attain access to professional evaluations and recommendations privately and subsequently reach a shared care agreement with the NHS so I can begin HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). For more information on the details of this, read the section titled "Why I Need Your Help".

My Story
Despite being openly supportive of all forms of gender expression for pretty much my whole life, I struggled privately with my own gender identity for a very long time. After reaching a particularly low point mentally from trying to hide this piece of my identity, I finally confronted the demons inside and made the bold assertion to explore who I was fully. Up until this point, I had been secretly waiting for someone to magically appear in my life and make it manifest. I realised I had to jump in for myself and see if it made me feel like I thought it all might.

Spoiler alert: it did!

Being the kind of person I am, I started selling all of my years old game collection at rapid pace, doing research and experimenting in all areas. The more I experienced, the more fulfilled I became. It was like I was finally unlocking this huge part of me I'd smooshed down for so, so long. Liberation!

Using what little money I managed to make and the savings I had from years of putting away tiny bits I could at a time, I managed to pay for laser hair removal on the face in the Black Friday sales and obtain part of a new wardrobe of clothes and makeup to be the new me.

It all came to a head when I hosted a 5 hour gameshow I created for my friends where I played the character "Mr Quiz" before symbolically killing my masc self at the end and announcing something I'd secretly really known for over 10 years. I was in fact trans.

A huge swell of love and support blew me away. Since that night on the 18th November 2023, I have been living full time as a trans woman in every area of my life. I've received a lot of words of affirmation from friends, family & work.

Everyone keeps telling me how much happier I seem and that I'm "glowing" :)

Why I Need Your Help
Unfortunately, despite the emotional love and support I've received since coming out, due to the nature of the UK's healthcare system, especially regarding trans healthcare, through the NHS I will be waiting a minimum of 2 years in order to be seen at a GIC (Gender Identity Clinic) and get access to the hormones I need. I'm already 32 and the clock feels like it's ticking by every day as my body slowly morphs into an old man.

And so I'm seeking funds in order to be able to pay to be seen by a private Psych and Endocrinologist. This will take 1-2 sessions for each at around £300 per session. These evaluations will provide me with official, NHS regulation based guidance from professional Doctors. These doctors will give me letters to give to my GP who should then agree to provide the necessary hormones and do the required blood tests through the NHS via what is known as a Shared Care agreement, to both start my journey in earnest & make sure I'm safe and nothing untoward is happening. The positive is that my GP is based at the GIC for my area, and so this is a proven and effective way to get to where I need to before my mental health takes a serious toll and I begin to regress.

After some travel costs and the small cut GoFundMe take, this means I'll need around £1250 to ensure I have enough to get to where I'm going.

I honestly hate asking for help at all because I always feel guilty, but I'm kind of desperate after selling most of my stuff, and my friends are worried about me doing dodgy stuff on my own without medical oversight but not able to fund it on their own, and so here I am. I have no expectations of anyone in particular at all, but if you're able to help out, even just a small bit, it'd mean the world to me.

What About Extra Funds?
If I exceed my initial goals, there are plenty of other areas I could begin to fund or at least put aside to save for long term. Depending on the circumstances I could look at the following:
  • Voice Coaching
  • Long term saving for Facial Feminisation Surgery
  • Additional Psychiatric Support
  • Laser Hair Removal on other parts of my body

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and if you donate even more thanks. I hope you have a great day,

Peace & Love,

Paris
