Fence Repair - Park for Humans & Dogs

The Park for Humans & Dogs (PHD) is a hidden gem of a dog park in the Old Sixth Ward neighborhood of Houston. It is a beautiful and artistically-designed public park, featuring an on-leash area primarily for humans, a gravel potty area and a huge off-leash area for the puppers.

Unfortunately, the wooden fence adjacent to the neighboring cemetery is in need of significant repair. Many of the fence pickets have decayed and need to be replaced. This fence keeps our dogs from getting into the wilderness behind the fence, so it's quite important that it be intact.

This GoFundMe is being used to collect the funds necessary to replace the fence pickets and make repairs to the other parts of the fence that need it most. Not everything has to be replaced immediately.

In a most-fortuitous turn of events, the Executive Director of the Glenwood Cemetery has committed to pay for half of the fence repairs, so long as we can raise the other half first. The details of the costs are included below, but basically it's going to cost ~2000$ to replace all the pickets and other urgently-necessary components. All the work will be done voluntarily by the Dog Park Heroes, so this cost is solely for materials. Your donation will be used to buy fence pickets, screws or dimensional lumber for the repairs.

The details:

The PHD is a public park owned by the city of Houston, not the apartment complex.

It's located at 2411 Washington Ave, 77007.

All materials are being purchased at Home Depot because it's within walking distance of the park. If you have a better price, please contact us.

The fence pickets cost 6.24$ as of this writing. 27 have already been replaced, out of the 320 which need to be replaced to make the park safe.

320-27 = 293 fence pickets left

293*6.24 = 1828.32$ worth of fence pickets left to buy (at this price and excluding tax).

The fence pickets are cedar dog-ear pickets, 8ft long, 5.5in wide, 5/8in thick.

The screws being used are Deckmate III, tan colored, 1-5/8in long in a 1lb box. We have two boxes on-hand, but will need more. They cost 10.47$ each as of this writing.

Each picket requires 6 screws.

293*6 = 1758 screws total to complete just the fence pickets (this doesn't include any dimensional lumber that may need to be replaced).

Each 1lb box contains about 124 screws (estimated by weight).

1758/124 = 14 boxes of screws required to finish the pickets. We have two on-hand.

12*10.47 = 125.64$ worth of screws (not including tax)

The dimensional lumber that needs to be replaced in some locations varies between 2x4, 2x6 and some custom-ripped fence pickets. Most of these don't need to be replaced immediately, but it will be more difficult to do it later.
