Parkinson’s Oldham branch
Donation protected
As some people may know, our Nana (Maureen Oxley) lives with Parkinson’s disease and has done for 17 years. Every day we see how this awful illness affects her in many different ways, from taking away her mobility to making her very forgetful. However the most heartbreaking thing we have to see is how her independence is taken away by this horrible disease, our Nan used to be so active walking all over the Lake District, up every mountain possible, but she is no longer able to complete these amazing walks and experiences we do as a family as has recently become much harder for her.
In the last couple of years we have lost a few grandparents so you can image how precious our Nan is to us both. In 2020 we lost our Grandad, Nan’s husband, which took a huge effect on us as a family and also massively enhanced the progression of Nans Parkinson’s.
Some days our Nan can struggle to even make a brew and get around the house and to see that is so damaging on us as her granddaughters.
Parkinson’s Oldham branch is a charity for people who suffer with Parkinson’s in the Oldham area and has helped our Nan massively along her journey. We wanted to do something to give back to everybody who helps look after our Nana as amazingly as they do, with a big shoutout to Les Shelmerdine for all the hard work and dedication he has put in over the years. For this reason the three of us, Rob, Joe and Jacob are going to walk the Yorkshire three peaks, climbing 2,153 meters and walking over 24 miles in a day on the 17th August. When we were 9, we did the Greater Manchester cycle and raised just over £1300 which we aim to match or even better, beat. We have seen how the local Parkinson’s branch has struggled with the rise of living costs along with the impacts of COVID so we have decided now is the perfect time to help again in the best way we can.
Any donations to this amazing charity would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ❤️
