Help Caley's Rocket -Parts Unknown- to Burning Man
Donation protected
Hi!
My name is Trish and I'm raising funds for Parts Unknown, a sculptural installation by my friend and artist Caley Bourdon.
Caley is part of a group of friends who support each other to create sculptural installations at Bass Coast and Burning Man. In fact, Caley has been the headlining artist at Bass Coast for the past several years. He was a key supporter of both Erik and myself to bring our art installations - Jar of Sand and the Orcas - to Burning Man 5 years ago.
This year, we are presenting Parts Unknown at Burning Man 2023 and are looking for your support to help us get it there. The project debuted at Bass Coast and we've been able to assess what adjustments need to be made for the severe Black Rock desert environment and things that need to be rebuilt based on damage.
Parts Unknown is... our ruminations on the idea that humanity's greatest accomplishments and most beautiful creations often have catastrophic consequences intentional or not.
It's a retro rocket crash-landed on top of a dead alien surrounded by an otherworldly landscape...it is a 17' long wooden lattice rocket with a rotating interior completely hand cut from plywood. The rocket is surrounded by 6 satellite structures made from plywood hexagons attached together to form a sort of honeycomb. The installation also includes a console with a theremin which participants can use to create their own retro soundscape.
Parts Uknown was conceived of and designed by Caley Bourdon and built with the help of a team of friends: Erik More, Andrew Chamberlayne, Alex Govorchin, Sarah Pitcairn, Jamie Tilson, Sabine Wimmer, Kay Hanen, Jesse Worsell and many more. It takes a village and we can't thank everyone enough. Construction has been at our shop in Tofino and at The Egg in Vancouver. Thanks to Peter Blitz for the support.
Caley has largely paid for the Rocket with his own funds and a grant from Bass Coast.
Your donation will go towards materials, repairs, new build, lighting, solar power and transportation.
$500 - Materials
$1500 - Truck Rental
$1000 - Insurance
There are a lot more costs, but trying to set a reasonable goal here.
The team needs to arrive on the Black Rock Desert by Thursday August 24th in order to complete the build and set up for opening day at Burning Man on Sunday August 27th.
So we need to raise our fundraising goal by then.
Please consider donating $20 to help a Vancouver artist represent on the playa.
Thanks so much!

See you out there.
