Chads Road to Recovery

Donation protected
The Family of Chad Bauste asks for the help of the community due to the medical, travel, hotel and unforeseen expenses that will be ongoing for an unknown amount of time. The update and story of Chads unfortunate circumstances from his wife and children is below please take a second to read.

January 26th, 2024, our son Dawson rushed his dad to the emergency room in Williston as we suspected Chad had a stroke when he was sleeping. Chad awoke that morning with slurred speech and numbness to his right side. The ER immediately initiated a Stroke Protocol given the information that his son had given them. A CT scan was performed right away which confirmed Chad was having a stroke on the left side of his brain along with discovering he had a dissection and severe stenosis involving the petrous segment of the left internal carotid artery.

They immediately started what treatments they are able to in Williston, but the Doctor wanted to fly him out immediately. Unfortunately, Bismarck was unable to accept him due to the severity of the tare on the left artery. Fargo was then contacted where they accepted him as a patient.

A guardian flight came from Sidney, MT and Chad was then life flighted to Fargo. Fargo then did an MRI and CT scan once he arrived to get a treatment plan in place. The artery is severely severed and has limited the space in which the blood can flow through the artery. To add to this all, Chad has also recently been diagnosed with Covid, which is then in return causing blood clotting. Chad has been on a constant flow of Heparin which is a blood thinner. At this time the risk to go in and work on the severed artery is far too high and they are not comfortable going into surgery at this time for the artery.

Due to the stroke Chad now has aphasia which effects his speech and the ability to communicate with us. He also is struggling to have mobility of his right hand.

Chad is currently in the ICU in Fargo, and it is unknown at this time when he will be moved out of the ICU. He has two teams who are caring for him, one is the neurology the other is the ICU team. The time frame for him to be in the hospital is unknown at this time and we are taking it day by day.

Chad has started receiving occupational, speech and physical therapy while here in the ICU.

Tamara along with his children have been by his side and in Fargo since his arrival. His daughters have been working daily with him on how to say their names and help identify who they are. He does call Kinzlee "My baby" which is what he has always called her.

Tailyn has been helping feed him and encourages him to use his right hand.

We do not know what our future holds, we are just grateful he is still here with us and as a family we will work tirelessly to get him back.

Any help is appreciated, if you are not able donate at this time, please pass this along in the community.
