Hello!
Our names are Tyler Bitman, Alexander Borg, Roy Nixon, and Christopher Testa. We're a biomedical engineering senior project team at The College of New Jersey in the process of developing a portable, automated sterilization system (PASS) for use in medical clinics in developing nations. The reuse of needles and other small medical equipment is prevalent in these countries. Likewise, rural clinics often lack facilities and trained personnel necessary for adequate sterilization. Our hope is that PASS will help solve these problems. PASS operates by introducing a chemical, peracetic acid, into a vacuum chamber to sterilize needles and other medical equipment. This process is unique because it functions automatically, safely, and is environmentally friendly, all while maintaining portability. Our project has the potential to prevent the spread of infection and save lives. We have a budget of $400 and a current expenditure list of approximately $1,200. We will begin manufacturing PASS this upcoming semester. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

We require funding beyond our budget to incorporate the following aspect of the device:
· A vacuum-rated pressure vessel ($500)
· Peracetic acid and testing materials to conduct sterilization verification and validation activities ($100)
· Electrical components including an Arduino UNO Microcontroller, Pressure Sensor, Solenoid Valves, and a Vacuum Pump to provide automation to the system ($200)
