Memory of Karen and Rob Phillips

Hi everybody, I’m sorry for the long read but I feel everyone needs to know this family’s tragic story.   Firstly, I would like to thank you for viewing this page and taking the time to read this tragic story. Iv set up this page to try and help 3 young girls Rebecca, Kirsty and Lauren whose world has been turnt upside down due to losing both their parents to Covid-19.   Karen and Rob were both admitted to hospital on the 30th march within 30 mins of each other. Rob was put straight on a ventilator on the ICU department and placed into an educed coma. Karen was taken to beach ward and put straight onto oxygen. 5 long and heartbreaking days passed and the girls received a phone call from ICU saying that rob has had organ failure and there was nothing else they could do and sadly they had to turn the ventilator off and let him pass. Karen was still in hospital at the time and was unable to say goodbye to Rob due to the threat off Covid-19 so this left it down to the eldest daughter who had to do something no daughter should ever have to do and say the last good bye from the family to her dad who she loved with everything she had. Sadly, an hour after Rebecca said good bye Rob passed away. Karen came home to her daughters that evening to be with her daughters but within a few hours she was taken back to hospital. The next morning Karen told her girls that she was going to be discharged the following day as she no longer needed to be on oxygen. Around 3pm the girls hadn’t heard from their mum so where all extremely worried. Kirsty rang the ward and was immediately told to hold the line. A few moments later she was told that a doctor would ring her back. Rebecca, Kirsty and Lauren for obvious reasons feared the worse thinking Karen may have been taken to ICU like their dad. 30 mins later the girls got the most heartbreaking news that their mum had passed away after having a sudden heart attack. The nurses and doctors tried everything, they could to bring her back. The family believed she died of a broken heart. Rebecca and Kirsty then had to tell their children that nanny and grandad had gone to heaven together. Their youngest daughter Lauren was pregnant and gave birth 10 days after their parents passed away.   2020 was meant to be the year off happiness for the family with Laurens first baby being born and Rebecca getting married in august. Karen and Rob could not wait to see one of their daughters get married but sadly never will now. Karen and Rob lives revolved around their family and there was nothing that they would not do. They had 3 children and 5 grandchildren. The family was one of the closest families I know and they were childhood sweethearts married for 35 years.   I’m asking everyone for a little help even if its small as the girls now face losing the family home of over 20 year filled with endless happy memories, as there was no mortgage insurance or life insurance for reasons we will never know. Nothing will ever stop the heart ache or pain this family is going through. But I’m hoping that we can raise some money so the girls can pay the last of the mortgage and keep their family home. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses who helped Karen and Rob doing their absolute best during such a terrible time.
