Help Pastor Daryl and Laura

Our brother Daryl is pastor of First Baptist Church in Freer, Texas. He and his wife Laura have been blessed to serve in this small church along side some amazing Christian people. In 2020-2022, starting in the middle of the pandemic, Daryl faced prostate cancer and went through extensive treatment. As recent as January 2023, it appeared that all was clear. In March of 2023, Daryl had experienced pain in his bones and became very weak and had to be taken to the emergency room. The doctors indicated that the prostate cancer had returned with a vengeance and he was diagnosed with secondary malignant neoplasm of the bone- essentially the prostate cancer has moved to his skull, spine, ribs, arms, legs and femurs. While Daryl can still work, his mobility is going to be impacted as well as his energy levels. Their church family is being supportive and generous. Laura is showing some amazing strength and devotion to God. Despite all this, they could use help. Daryl and Laura were able to manage the costs of the first bout with cancer with help from savings, insurance and help from family and church family. This second journey is proving to be more costly and the impact on their lives and ministry is calling for some specific needs.

Here is how we can help Daryl and Laura. In Freer, the church has provided a nice parsonage for Daryl and Laura and over the last five years their own small home in the San Antonio area (2 hours away) has suffered from lack of attention. However, Daryl needs to be in the San Antonio area for his cancer treatments. Their house needs repairs and additions. These renovations include considerable basic maintenance, renovations to assist Daryl’s mobility needs and an addition to provide an office so Daryl can work from home. It is Daryl’s desire to continue to serve God through this journey. He wants to leave every ounce of strength he has out on the field of ministry and finish strong in his service to the Lord. Our hope is that we could raise enough support to give him the tools to live and work from home while he does battle with cancer, or we should say....while Daryl and Laura entrust God to do battle with cancer.
